You spent $22 billion on mobile games in the first quarter of 2022

We all know that the mobile gaming market is an extremely lucrative market. People and businesses have racked up billions of dollars just from these $0.99 purchases that people make. According to, (via business beat) mobile game spending topped $22 billion in the first quarter of 2022.

This includes both the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store. As expected, games accounted for the majority of mobile spending this year and previous years. According to the data, on average, 65¢ of every $1 was spent on a game. That means, statistically, more than half of the money you spent in the first three months of the year went to those special crystals or those cool outfits.

If we break that down by app store, 73% of the money spent on the Play Store was on games. Additionally, of all app downloads on the Play Store, 44% were apps. As for the iOS App Store, 60% of the money spent was on games. When it comes to app downloads, 28% were games. In total, the source predicts that there have been around 14 billion total app downloads.

The first quarter of 2022 marked the highest year for mobile app spending. It’s been growing year after year, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Now we have seen the massive increase in numbers when the Covid-19 pandemic hit. More people were stuck at home and as a result they had little to do but stay home and play games.

Even though people are starting to return to work, the numbers continue to rise. In the first quarter of 2019, average weekly spending was just over $0.5 billion. In the first quarter of 2022, we are approaching $0.8 billion in spending on mobile games.

So which games top the charts?

The list of best games might surprise you and maybe not. Starting with the most downloaded game in the last quarter, it was a battle royale game named Free Fire. This was followed by Subway Surfers in 2012 at #2 and Roblox at #3. The other top 10 games were Candy Crush, Race Masters, Count Masters, Ludo King, Talking Tom 2, Magic Tiles 3 and 8 Ball Pool.

When it comes to spending, people spent the most on Genshin Impact with Roblox in 2nd and Honor of Kings in 3rd. Others in the top 10 are Candy Crush Saga, Game For Peace, Coin Master, Uma Musume Pretty Derby, Lineage W, PUBG Mobile, and Free Fire.

Finally, when it comes to highest monthly active users, Roblox is in 1st this time around with Candy Crush Saga in 2nd and Free Fire in 3rd. They are followed by Subway Surfers, PUBG Mobile, Minecraft Pocket Edition, Clash Royale, Lugo King, CoD Mobile and Pokemon Go.
