Wednesdays with Fort Sill: Back to School Events

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – Fort Sill is gearing up to help families as they prepare to return to school.

Weekly guest Virginia Aid, the community relations liaison at Fort Sill, spoke with 7News about their upcoming back-to-school events, a frozen treats event at Twin Oaks Bowling Center and their event orientation for spouses of newcomers this week.

New to Fort Sill? The Newcomer Spouse Orientation on July 29 at 10 a.m. is the perfect opportunity to learn about the resources and services available at Fort Sill. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take a bus tour, which will give them valuable insight into the layout of the military base.

All families are invited to LETRA for the Fort Sill Back-to-School Party and Color Run, taking place next week, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., August 6. There will be several free activities for adults and children, such as paintball, corn hole, archery and water sports. Plus, there will be a school supplies giveaway that will provide free backpacks to the first 500 kids to attend!

Participation in the Color Run is also free and the first 100 children to participate will receive a free Color Run t-shirt and kit.

The Twin Oaks Bowling Center, which is still open to the public, will also be hosting an ice cream treat to escape the heat on August 6. Throughout the day, for every game played, guests will receive a free ice cream sundae. Costs will be $3.25 per game, per person, and shoe rental will be $2.75.
