UTSA drops Game 3 of the series at LA Tech

RUSTON, La. – The UTSA softball team lost a 7-4 decision to Louisiana Tech on Sunday afternoon to close the series.

The Lady Techsters were on the board early with four runs in second. They started with a solo home run, then scored three more runs from two singles and a double to lead 4-0.

The Roadrunners got on the board in the fourth. Riley Grünberg opened with a single field to the left. Marena Estel hit the ball off the right field wall for a two-run homer as UTSA led 4-2. With an out, Erykah Guerrero reached on an error and Lauren Coerver earned a walk, but a flyout ended the inning.

UTSA added one more run in the fifth of a solo home run to center field from Grunberg’s bat to make it a one-run game (4-3).

LA Tech scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth on two hits to extend the lead to four (7-3).

In the top of the seventh, the Roadrunners added the final inning of the game on a sack fly of Emily Dear to mark Camille Robillard.

Estell earned the start, pitching 1.2 innings with three strikeouts. Alexa Williams went in for 0.1 innings with one strikeout and Jamie Gilbert closed the game, pitching the final 4.0 innings with two strikeouts.

UTSA recorded nine hits on the day with Grunberg leading the team with three.

The Roadrunners return to the field Tuesday when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
