Topeka stores see strong demand for Chiefs gear ahead of AFC Championship game

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – After an unforgettable Kansas City Chiefs win on Sunday, Topeka fans flocked to area stores to get their hands on the latest gear.

“We saw a lot more pedestrians, a lot more people asking for jerseys, Travis Kelce jerseys, Patrick Mahomes jerseys,” said Joseph Uttinger, chief operating officer at Topeka Sports and Outdoors Academy.

“It definitely gets busy, usually on weekends it’s a lot busier than weekdays, but I would say we’ve been pretty consistently busy,” said Katie Borough, sales associate at Kansas sampler.

As fans flock to get their hands on the latest gear, area shops are loving the chef’s spirit.

“We’re pretty excited, we’re really excited here, and then obviously we’re getting some gear too,” Borough said.

“It was awesome, Academy Sports and Outdoors is so excited when the Chiefs win, we’re thrilled for the fans, we’re thrilled to have them here and thrilled that they’re buying our merchandise,” Uttinger said.

Should the Chiefs win another AFC Championship title, Academy Sports is ready for fans to take home the AFC Championship kit.

“We received AFC Championship merchandise,” Uttinger said. “When the chefs win, we’ll set up tables in the front, we’ll have a lot of people to set it up and everything will be fine.”

Joseph Uttinger says if the chef wins tomorrow, the store will temporarily close and allow staff enough time to set up tables and merchandise before reopening.

However, Kansas Sampler won’t have AFC Championship gear until the end of the week, but once they do, they promise there will be plenty.

If the Chiefs win, Rally House says AFC Championship gear will be available at their Kansas City facility.

The AFC Championship game airs Sunday at 2 p.m. on WIBW Channel 13.
