An upscale ice cream parlor, game store and consignment shop have joined the Mahomet business community. A look at each of the new arrivals:
The main scoop
This fall, The Main Scoop will open at 403 E. Main Street. Owned by Jessica and Nick Hanson of Muhammad, the new ice cream parlor will serve 20 different flavors of hand-dipped ice cream in a vibrant and fun atmosphere.
Jessica Hanson, who is also a real estate agent for the Nate Evans Group, said her family often found themselves driving to Champaign to buy ice cream and decided they wanted to open something to Muhammad.
âWe live and work here and want to have something for our community, (a place) to come and relax and just enjoy the ice cream,â she said.
The Hansons are excited to open a business right in the heart of downtown Muhammad and hope The Main Scoop is a hangout destination, an after school hangout, and just a place the community can enjoy. Their current goal is to be operational by November 2021.
Jessica says they will be offering dairy-free and color-free options and also plan to provide online orders to better serve the community.

Rad Lad Games
After a decade in the insurance business, Andy Clodfelter de Monticello decided to give it up and pursue his dream of owning a gaming business.
Clodfelter opened Rad Lad Games, located at 415 E. Main Street, a short walk from The Main Scoop, in August 2021.
Rad Lad Games is a one-stop shop that includes table games for lovers of collectible card games, role-playing games, board games and miniature games.
Clodfelter, who has always loved role-playing and board games, admits opening the store has always been a pipe dream. However, he had been saving money for a long time “just in case”.
He says the pandemic gave him the boost he needed to move forward with his dream.
âThe pandemic made me reassess and allowed me to take a chance and do something new,â he said.
As well as keeping a full inventory of games on the shelves, Clodfelter also wants to connect people and give them a place to play games.
A calendar of events, including game nights, is available on Rad Lad Games’ Facebook and Instagram pages.
The Briella’s Boutique in Savoy, open since 2010, has grown and opened a second location in Mahomet.
Briella’s store in Mahomet, located in Eastwood Center where the NAPA Auto Parts store was once located, opened on July 9, 2021.
Customers familiar with the Savoy store can find similar items in the 3,300 square foot Mahomet store, including designer clothing for women, men, juniors, children, infants and maternity. In addition, high-end handbags, shoes and jewelry are available.
Briella’s is the joint effort of sisters-in-law Elaine Remole and Brittney Remole. The couple had talked about opening a second location in hopes of serving another community.
“We knew Muhammad would be a perfect fit for a consignment store,” said Elaine Remole, who lives in Muhammad with her husband and two daughters.
Elaine, who worked in consignment and retail for almost 20 years, said she was passionate about the business.
One of his favorite things is, âI just don’t know what’s going to happen next. “
She also values ââthe relationships she has built with customers and shippers over the years. âThey become part of our family,â she said.
Anyone interested in consignment is advised to make an appointment in advance.
