Curling season starts early – BG Independent News

The Bowling Green Curling Club (BGCC) hits the ice early this season and invites everyone to come try curling. Curling is an easily adaptable sport, and the BG Curling Club is equipped for both standing stick delivery and wheelchair curling, in addition to traditional slide delivery.

Come watch our first tournament of the year – The Early Bird

A bonspiel is a curling tournament, and the public is always welcome to come see it for free!

The first Bonspiel of the BGCC season is The Early Bird, taking place September 9-11.

In addition to local curlers, there will be teams from Ohio, Michigan and Canada.

Matches will take place on Friday evening, Saturday all day and Sunday morning. Visit the BGCC website

for more details.

learn to loop

The BGCC offers two-hour Learn To Curl sessions (cost $30) in September and October.

Instructions are provided, followed by an opportunity to play a short game. You can choose to slide or use a pole – or try both and see how you feel most comfortable.

Individuals and groups can register.

It’s a way to meet new people, make new friends, and exercise during the cold months.

Learn To Curl gift certificates also make great gifts. Details, dates and registration are available on the BGCC website.

These six-week leagues (cost $90) begin in September. They mix play with instruction and mix new curlers with experienced clubs.

Ouch. Experienced curlers always love the chance to teach new players by sharing their knowledge and sometimes a good story. Details, dates and registration are available on the BGCC website.

Even inexperienced curlers are welcome in BGCC leagues. New curlers pick up the game quickly, and no matter how good you are on the ice, everyone can enjoy a post-game broom (drinks and snacks). Check the BGCC website for all league schedules and registration information.

New in 2022! All Stick League

This season, BGCC will be launching an all-stick delivery league (standing or wheelchair), but stick curlers can also play in any of BGCC’s leagues. If you, your friends or family have wanted to try curling but have been hesitant, perhaps for some reason related to your ability or balance, you can easily sign up for a Learn To Curl and give it a try.

Many of our members have enjoyed stick curling for years – just come to the club and ask.

Youth curling

BGCC offers curling programs for kids ages 6 and up! The Rockstars program is for kids in grades 1-3 and the Juniors program is for kids in 4-12.

Last season, one of our U18 men’s teams participated in the Junior National.
