Ann Arbor owners set to reap big profits over Michigan-Ohio State weekend
ANN ARBOR – The Airbnb online accommodation market predicts that property owners in Ann Arbor will see a big influx of short-term rental income this weekend as fans descend on college town for the biggest soccer game in rivalry of the year: University of Michigan vs. Ohio State.
The company released several stats ahead of the big game weekend, including:
The searches for accommodation in Ann Arbor for this coming weekend increased by more than 210% from August to September.
The majority of guest arrivals this weekend are from Ohio at nearly 20% before cancellations or changes.
The last time the Wolverines played against the Buckeyes in Ann Arbor, the local hosts made over $ 1.1 million.
Airbnb said that on average a typical host earns $ 9,600 and new hosts who have started renting their properties since the start of the pandemic have reported a total income of $ 6 billion.
The company says an increase in local stays not only brings “significant economic benefits” to hosts, but also to the local economy when hosts recommend area businesses and restaurants to their guests.
